Wedding Photography in the UK

Steve Gower is a Bristol wedding photographer covering the whole of the UK

When it comes to the weather, wedding photography in the UK can be quite a challenge sometimes. Often it will be windy, raining, cold and sometimes even snow. Every now and then we also get some bright harsh contrasty sunshine. All this means its really important to select a wedding photographer who has both a great deal of experience and patience!

Wedding photography in the Bristol area is no different, and being right on the edge of the Severn Estuary it often means we can experience many different types of weather all in the space of a few hours. This is sometimes a great thing when it comes to wedding photography, as when its raining, often 20 minutes later, the rain has cleared and there is an opportunity to get outside and take some great wedding images at your venue.

Modern weddings in the Bristol area often seem to take place in 3 or 4 main types of venue, my favourite two are

1) Mansion house / stately home , venues like Coombe Lodge, St Audries Park or Orchardleigh house will fall into this category, they are often in very picturesque settings and offer many opportunities for fantastic wedding photography. Its best to try and select a photographer who will not only do close up bride and groom shots, but great wedding images that show the bride and groom in front of the venue, after all if you have selected such a fantastic location, you need to see it in the images!

2) Barn’s are venues that I think can benefit from a more laid back approach, often whilst there are great areas for images, they tend to be on a single level. When you are getting married in a venue like this, you need to select a wedding photographer who is skilled at both creating modern bride and groom images, but can also happily shoot laid back documentary/reportage style images that tell the story of your special day.
